Just as water can bubble out of the ground to form a spring at the lowest point in the forest, it seems that God can bubble out of us at even the low points in our lives. Continue reading “Have you ever seen bubbling sand?”
With everything going on these days with the gay marriage thing in the US, and now UK Anglican church trying to figure out how they are going to handle this issue and how this might affect the Anglican church in Africa, it seems like some wheels are trying to shake themselves loose. Continue reading “How do we update the bible?”
So .. when I read this I went through a whole range of emotions over a few short minutes. Ranging from, “Is this April 1st?” to “How do explain my own perspective?”. On one hand I am freaking out a little, on the other hand .. I’m only freaking out a little.
It’s hard to figure out sometimes what is going on when we enter spiritually dry seasons in our lives. Calling this arid, dusty spiritual time a “Desert Experience” makes it seem somehow noble and worthwhile, almost heroic. For those going through the desert, it can be an intensely lonely time and desperate time. Continue reading “My feeble, whispered, faithless prayer …”
On the face of it, this seems to be yet another gloomy post from a semi-depressed Brit hammering his way through another Finnish winter, but stay with me. It’s gets better. 🙂 Continue reading “5 things to do when there is no reason to say “thank you”.”
I had a small revelation reading the weekly church bulletin this week. It contained the usual notices you would expect along with the spoilers for the Christmas story. Continue reading “This Christmas thing ..”

God help us, not even the pastors seem to be exempt from having a bad day or three. Continue reading “When Christians feel low ..”
Protect us from evil.
This line is translated a few ways
NIV: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
GNT: Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One
CEV: Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil
I’ve put several translations here so you get a feel of what Jesus was saying in his mother-tongue. Continue reading “The Lord’s Prayer 5/5 – Protect us from evil”
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Forgive us when we screw up. When we hurt ourselves and those around us, by accident, on purpose. Just like when we forgive those who screw up and hurt us, by accident, on purpose. Continue reading “The Lord’s Prayer 4/5 – Forgive us”
Our daily bread
I’ve always prayed this prayer in a straight through manner to get to this line. This is the good bit. It’s the Father Christmas line. Give us the good stuff, today, now. Continue reading “The Lord’s Prayer 3/5 – Our daily bread”
